Here's to another new beginning.
I'm about 8 years into my photography journey, including about a 3-year hiatus. I've always loved taking photos but didn't really dive into the technical aspects of photography and didn't have the tools for it. After getting my Nikon d90 with the 18-105 kit lens as a graduation gift in 2009, I started to explore this uncharted (for me) territory of aperture and shutter speed and ISO and the rule of thirds, and all the other good stuff that comes with a DSLR. Looking back at my old photos, I'm glad to be able to say that there's definitely been some growth. A lot of my old images look terribly overprocessed, and in hindsight, I can see phases I went through with love for certain lenses and angles.
It's been an awfully fun journey, and there's such a long way for me yet to go. I was given an awesome opportunity this spring by a gracious friend to do some shooting on a couple of small jobs that has given me a taste of what it might be like to not just take photos but to actually be a photographer. A fear of the unknown and a lack of confidence in my abilities, and especially the dread of disappointing paying clients has held me back until this point, so I decided to offer up my services for FREE just so that I could gain some more experience in working with people who "hired" me as a photographer. So for all of those who have given me the chance to take some photos and to use you as test subjects up to this point and even for those who have booked me for a few weekends in the coming months--thank you. Thank you for the opportunity to take photos and capture moments of you and your families. Thank you for your kind words and the affirmation from all of you. I hope you guys enjoyed the experience of having your pictures taken and that you will continue to enjoy the memories made.
I've been using this zenfolio site for a long time mostly just as storage and as a way to share photos with people, but I'm realizing that I need a way to share photos with my friends and potential clients as well as getting photos in galleries to current clients. Hence this blog. This is where I'll be sharing the majority of my photos for the public for now so that the actual galleries can be kept private. I hope you all enjoy!
